Five Rules For Setting Record Levels

    Check your levels before dubbing 
    Set levels once per tape (don't change on the fly)
    Pick a loud reference point (such as DRUMS, or a loud jam)
    Levels should "peak" between 0 and +3 dB for Type II
      tapes, +4 to +6 db for metal tapes.
    Set the levels high, but not too high. (Remember, whatever level
      you set is for the noise as well as the signal.)
